A number of organizations dealing in Seismology have accumulated
from past several decades Seismic charts of
various shapes, sizes and resolution. With
passage of time, many of the charts have faded,
brittled and valuable scientific information
accumulated at great effort and expense is being
lost with passage of time due to aging process.
While the new set of seismic equipments use digital seismographs
wherein data can be easily stored and
manipulated using computers. It is also possible
to use the digital data for analysis under the
latest software for example SEISAN , SEISNET
etc. for further analysis.
On the other hand, information contained in old analog charts are
likely to be lost and valuable data in current
firm is unusable for analysis under the modern
tools / software.
Digitization is the process of scanning old seismic charts with
the help of the software and saving those
scanned charts digitally, so, that they can in
future without any loss of scientific data. The
entire process of digitization of scientific
data is laborious in nature requiring manual
intervention to adjust for they variations from
chart to chart depending upon sizes, degree of
detoriation etc. We a Company located in New
Delhi, India have necessary manpower and
software expertise which is cost wise highly
competitive for equivalent work being done
anywhere in the globe. We therefore, offer
unique advantage of restoration of scientific
data at very economical and efficient way.
We, B.K. Consimpex undertake digitization of seismic charts
(paper charts) and convert the information
contained in analog form to digital form thereby
making the analog information available for
manipulations under latest seismological
software.
We have full fledged facility to undertake this job work which,
we perform in
India using dedicated and trained man power in
data processing as well as in seismology.
We undertake to digitize the old seismic charts on job work
basis. All the customers need to do is to send
the charts by courier and get back the original
as well as digitized charts on a modern media
like DLT, CD or even via FTP.
The digitization is done using following steps;
Preparatory -
Ø Receiving the original charts
Ø Flatten them on a large table
Ø Repair torn area & deep folds with
special cello tape
Ø Labeling the seismic charts
Ø Giving unique identification no. (code no
to be decided in consultation with the
customer).
Ø Prepare the charts for filming /
scanning
Filming-
Wherever, we find the charts have faded and the lines contained
thereon are barely visible with naked eye or
under normal lens magnification, we first film
these charts using our highly specialized wide
format flow camera. It is possible to manipulate
the lights from 04 sides of the chart, so that
even most invisible part of the chart and the
lines thereon could be recorded on the film.
The film is then taken for scanning and further digitization.
Scanning –
The charts which are clearer are scanned using a high DPI scanner
(depends on clarity of original chart) and
scanned digital images carry all the information
on paper charts. The scanning is done in jpeg
format.
